Fenton Art Glass Company History:
The Fenton Art Glass Company was born in the heart and mind of Frank L. Fenton, with the help of his brother John on May 4, 1905 in Martins Ferry, Ohio. In 1907, the Fenton's began making glass in their factory in Williamstown, WV. Here brother, Charles Fenton, joined the family business bringing his decorating skills and headed the decorating department. Decorating was an important part of the operation as it is today. Decorating was fazed out during the Great Depression of the 1930's but became fashionable again in the 1960's. Louise Piper joined the team in 1968 designing and training decorators. Louise's initial design was Violets in the Snow.
After Frank L. Fenton's death in 1948, the team of Frank M. and Bill Fenton lead the factory through considerable growth for nearly four decades. Today seven third generation family members and two fourth generation family members strive to maintain the standards of handcrafted American glass, Fenton Art Glass.
